The Artist’s Prayer: An Ode to Psalms
My journey as an artist has tested me in ways that have, at times, completely shattered me. I’ve faced every form of opposition—from crippling self-doubt to the temptation to abandon my practice entirely. I’ve started over so many times I’ve lost count. I’ve been so deep in my own head that I’ve missed opportunities that could have propelled my career forward. There were moments when I beat myself up so severely that moving forward with my gifts felt impossible. I was ensnared by old patterns, and they held my future potential hostage. It was hard. I suffered in silence and carried the weight of feeling like a failure.
I had to do the deep work—confront the roots of my unbelief and heal from within. The truth is, no matter how brilliant or talented the world perceives you to be, you’ll never fully manifest your highest self if you don’t feel worthy of that recognition. The struggle is internal but the good news? It lives entirely in the mind, and with time and intentionality, it can be transformed.
The Artist’s Prayer is an homage to one of my favorite scriptures, Psalms 91—a prayer I’ve memorized to navigate life’s relentless trials: health crises, family conflicts, and self-recrimination among them. I’ve been immersed in this word for over four years, and combined with deep inner work, it has become a cornerstone of my spiritual foundation.
Being an artist or a creator of anything, demands a level of self-sacrifice that’s often overlooked. Achieving a point where your work bears fruit requires perseverance, discipline, and unwavering commitment. I wanted to create a prayer that functions as a mantra for my neighbors, for those wrestling with the same battles I once did. I want this prayer to uplift you on days when you feel your best and when you feel entirely depleted.
This prayer is a reminder that grace comes from God, and that you are worthy of it. In that grace, you deserve rest, recovery, and restoration—hourly, daily, whenever your spirit calls for renewal.
Take your time with this prayer. Meditate on it. Memorize it. I trust it will nurture your gifts and help you cultivate a deeper reverence for your purpose.
